Poll: Kasich leads over Clinton in 3 swing states

COLUMBUS — Gov. John Kasich had the biggest lead over Democrat Hillary Clinton among declared and potential GOP candidates in three swing states.

That's according to survey released today by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, which had Clinton mostly ahead or neck and neck with Republicans in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Only in Ohio did Clinton fail to top or remain within the margin of error against all possible challengers, with Kasich leading 47 percent-40 percent.

That lead "over Secretary Clinton is the largest of any GOP candidate in any of the three states," Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll, said in a released statement. "With Ohio being such a critically important state — no Republican has ever won the White House without carrying it — that gives Gov. Kasich a key talking point about why he should be the nominee."
