Two write-in candidates join Niles race for mayor

NILES — This year’s race for Niles mayor – which saw 24-year incumbent Ralph Infante defeated in the Democratic primary by Thomas A. Scarnecchia – just got more interesting with the write-in candidacies of Edward Stredney and Barry Profato.

Stredney has been a member of Niles City Council for five terms but isn’t on the ballot for re-election to council. Profato is a former Niles councilman, as is Scarnecchia.

The deadline for filing as a write-in candidate is Aug. 24.
