Jen Kuczek ran a week-long Drama Camp at the Austintown library from June 15-19. During this week students learned about reading and reciting plays, making creative masks and acting with one another in a fun and educational environment.

“It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone,” Kuczek said. “It’s good because you’re doing something you’ve never done before.”

Kuczek encouraged students to rehearse dramatically, telling them to try and achieve her level of annoyance

Cadence McStowe played a grandmother in the scene being rehearsed, using an accent and voice to match her part.

“I just love acting,” McStowe said.

Suzanne Rudnytsky, McStowe’s grandmother, accompanied Cadence and her brother to watch the mock performance. She said she was happy the library was doing something with the theater.

“I love the chance they have and the opportunity to explore it [drama],” Rudnytsky said.

Rudnytsky said this creativity is within their bloodlines.

“They have that creative personalities to begin with. They are characters — they have it in their family background,” Rudnytsky said. “I’m an opera singer and my husband is a concert pianist.”

Makayla Gibson, a friend of McStowe’s and fellow participant in Drama Camp, took part in Drama Camp more for the fun aspect.

“I just like being silly,” Gibson said.
