Casino-tax revenue drops for Mahoning Valley governments

Friday, July 17, 2015

YOUNGSTOWN — Casino-tax revenues reflecting gambling activity during the second quarter of this year have declined compared to those of the first quarter, according to the Ohio Department of Taxation.

The department recently reported the results of gambling activity between April 1 and June 30 in announcing the distributions to Ohio’s 88 counties and eight major cities, including Youngstown.

The money comes from a 33-percent tax on gross revenues, which is paid by the casinos in Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus and Cincinnati.

For the second quarter of this year, Youngstown and Mahoning County are each getting $329,316, compared to $352,854 in the April distribution, which reflected first-quarter gambling activity.

Trumbull County’s most-recent distribution was $579,470, compared to $620,889 in April.

Columbiana County is getting $298,486, compared to $319,821 in April.
