Driver leaves scene of an accident on Glenwood

YOUNGSTOWN — Police say the driver of a car that hit a utility pole at about 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of Glenwood Avenue ran away from the accident.

Reports said officers were told by witnesses that the person driving the car ran away and got into a pickup truck. The wreck knocked power out to the area.

As police were on the scene they got a call from the car's owner, who said he left it running in the parking lot of a nearby bar and someone jumped in the car and drove it away.

Reports said the man had blood on his shirt but no other signs he was driving the car.

Glenwood Avenue was closed between Breaden Avenue and Carrol Street until power was restored. Police cleared the scene about 4 a.m., reports said.
