URGENT | Trumbull deputies shoot and kill Southington man

SOUTHINGTON

An unidentified man was shot to death by deputies with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office at a house on Phalanx Mills Herner Road shortly after noon today.

Sheriff Thomas Altiere said the deputies were called to the house in the 2600 block at 12:07 p.m. on a report from a neighbor of shots fired.

The man was shooting when deputies arrived, and they fired back, the sheriff said, adding that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.

Officers with the Braceville Township Police Department arrived at the home at about the same time as the deputies, but they were not involved in the gunfire, the sheriff said,

The identity of the dead man and the identity of the deputies was not being released, Altiere said.

The road was being closed to the east.

The home is in a remote area west of U.S. Route 422.
