The Mahoning Valley’s December unemployment rate dropped down to 5.1 percent in December 2014 from 7.4 percent in December 2013.
While the employment numbers increased by 600, going from 240,300 in December 2013 to 240,900 in December 2014, the unemployment numbers decreased by 6,200, according to data released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services on Tuesday.
The civilian labor force number also decreased by 6,000 from people leaving the jobs market.
Ohio’s unemployment rate, released last Friday, dropped to 4.8 percent last month.
Ohio’s unemployment rate has remained below the nation’s, which was 5.6 percent in December.
