BOARDMAN

If you think your cupcakes are pretty pleasing with sprinkles on top, then put them to the test. Amateur bakers are needed for the third annual Sweet Life Cupcake Competition.

Five categories will be tasted and rated by a panel of judges. They are Classic, Savory, Freestyle, My Little Bride and Under the Big Top. Bakers can enter any or all categories. The entry fee is $15 for up to three categories and $5 for each additional category.

After the amateur cupcakes are judged Feb. 27, awards will be given and cupcakes will be on display from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 28 at The Georgetown, 5945 South Ave. The family-friendly event will benefit the Friends of the Mahoning Valley Birth Center.

Advance tickets cost $9 for adults and $2 for children. At the door, ticket prices are $12 for adults and $3 for children. Children under 3 are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased online at mvbcfriends.com and Eventbrite.

The contest also features professional bakers competing for the right to say they have the best looking and best tasting cupcakes. Professional bakers are The Bakery Box, The Cake Boutique, Clarencedale Cake, Dizzy B’s Cafe and Bakery, The Graceful Baker, Sugar Mama’s, Sugarypan Bakery and Sweets by June.

A panel of three judges per category will determine the winners based on taste and presentation. Also, attendees at the event will vote on an audience choice award.

Guests will view the displays, sample cupcakes, vote for their favorites, listen to music by Dynomyte Entertainment, take cupcakes home, and even create their own cupcake masterpiece at the Cupcake Creation Station sponsored by Kravitz Delicatessen.

Basket and silent auctions and a cash bar will be available. Photography will be done by Suzanne Bobosky Photography. Donations and sponsorships are being sought.
