YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Phantoms may have found their next star player — or at the very least, gained some young hockey fans.

As part of the organization’s Hockey for Health initiative, Phantom Power Play was created to help keep local youth active and further introduce them to hockey.

On Tuesday, members of the front office joined players in bringing the sport to the Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown. It was the second of many visits the Phantoms plan on making to the local chapter to encourage kids to get involved in sports.

“This is the first time we’ve gotten involved with the Boys & Girls Club and so far it’s been a great experience,” said Scott Brand, Phantoms vice president of operations and marketing.

“We were fortunate enough to team up with some great sponsors to get these kids equipment and jerseys that they’ll have to keep and use for whenever they want.

“Plus, it looks like these kids are having a lot of fun with it and it’s another way to get the players involved in the community.”
