For the second consecutive year, students at Dobbins Elementary School participated in the annual Polar Express Day on Dec. 18, during which they viewed the Polar Express film, drank hot cocoa and bottled water, ate popcorn and Dobbins Principal Michael Daley read the Polar Express book.

More than 200 students in grades kindergarten through four participated in the event.

The event lasted from 9:45 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. And the students were encouraged to wear pajamas during it.

Before opening the program by reading the book, Daley told the children how hard they had been working. He also told them of his family’s tradition of reading the book.

Daley added that events like Polar Express Day were an opportunity to take a moment to sit back and enjoy a reward for all their hard work.

“The smile I see on your faces means everything,” he said.

Second graders commented on everything from enjoying the popcorn and the movie as well as coming to school in their pajamas.

One fourth grader commented that her favorite part was that some of the “Elf on a Shelf” elves were in attendance.
