A Market Street traffic stop Thursday evening led to an investigation of possible illegal sexual activity between a 33-year-old Weirton, W.Va. man and a 13-year-old Clarksburg, W. Va., girl he had met on Facebook, but no charges have been filed against the man.

City Police Officer Jessica Shields saw and pursued a northbound car with West Virginia license plates, which she said she observed running a red light at Market Street and Williamson Avenue, stopping it at a nearby Market Street gas station at 8:25 p.m.

The 17-year-old boy driving the car was charged with marijuana possession, after Shields said she smelled the drug and found it in his pocket, and with driving without a license and running a red light.

The man, the 13-year-old and an 18-year-old Steubenville woman were passengers in the car.

The man identified the 13-year-old as his girlfriend, but told police she had identified herself as 17, soon to be 18, on Facebook.

Both females said they met the man on Facebook.
