Ohio woman with 5 kids in vehicle charged after police chase


AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Akron woman has been charged with child endangering and other counts after fleeing police in an SUV with five children inside.

Police say 33-year-old Lashawnna Taylor sped away from officers early Wednesday. Officers stopped the chase when they discovered children were in the vehicle. Taylor then crashed into a snow bank, flipping the vehicle and striking two poles and a fence post.

Authorities say a 2-year-old was ejected in the crash and suffered serious injuries. Taylor, another woman and four other children sustained minor injuries.

Taylor was set to appeared in Akron Municipal Court later today. She’s charged with five felony counts of child endangering, a single felony count of fleeing from police and misdemeanor charges including drunken driving.

Police say no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
