Cleveland police chief’s brother dies after shooting

CLEVELAND (AP) — A spokesman says the brother of Cleveland’s police chief was fatally shot in a residential area on the city’s east side.

The man found dead early today was identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office as William D. Williams, 34.

A police spokesman, Sgt. Ali Pillow, confirmed Williams is the brother of Cleveland police Chief Calvin Williams.

Police say they received a call about 2:50 a.m. reporting that a man had been shot, and emergency responders determined when they arrived the man had died. Police didn’t immediately release further details about the shooting and requested privacy for Williams’ family.

The Cleveland police homicide unit is investigating the death.
