Poland and Boardman police ask for public's help to track down car break-in suspect

Friday, February 13, 2015

POLAND — Poland and Boardman police are asking for the public's help to track down a suspect who they say is responsible for several car break-in cases in the area.

Police said at a news conference today they now have DNA evidence and photographs linking an unidentified male to five unsolved cases that date back to 2009.

They are offering a reward to anyone with information that leads to prosecution of the suspect, who they say breaks into cars near the Poland Woods in Poland Township, Poland Village and Boardman Township.

Police say the suspect uses stolen cards to purchase stamps at post offices and then likely trades the stamps for cash.

In photographs from video surveillance, the suspect is seen wearing gloves and a motorcycle helmet.

"They won't be able to recognize the individual, but maybe they will recognize the helmet, or his clothes, or they will have personal knowledge of the individual," said Poland Township Detective Greg Wilson.

Police ask that anyone with information contact one of the three departments.
