Officials: Teen took selfie with boy’s body

GREENSBURG, Pa.

Authorities say a western Pennsylvania teenager charged in the shooting death of another teen took a selfie with the body and sent it to a friend on social media.

The 16-year-old boy is charged with homicide and a firearms count in the death of 16-year-old Ryan Mangan, who was found Wednesday in his Jeannette home.

Police were contacted by the mother of another boy who said he’d received a photo showing the suspect with the victim after he’d been shot, and also received text messages from the suspect saying “Told you I cleaned up the shells” and “Ryan was not the last one.”

Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck tells the Pittsburgh Tribune Review that the photo “was a key piece of evidence that led investigators to the defendant.”

Launch called off

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.

SpaceX called off Sunday’s planned launch of a deep-space observatory — and a revolutionary rocket-landing attempt — after a critical radar-tracking system failed.

Former Vice President Al Gore, who first envisioned the observatory two decades ago, was on hand for the attempt.

The SpaceX company halted the countdown at the 21/2-minute mark after the loss of the Air Force radar system for tracking the rocket in flight. Chief executive officer Elon Musk said via Twitter that the company would try again today and that the delay probably was for the best.

Jordan: 56 airstrikes launched against IS

AMMAN, Jordan

Jordan has launched 56 airstrikes against Islamic State group weapons depots, training centers and military barracks since militants released a video of them burning a Jordanian pilot to death, Jordan’s air force chief said Sunday.

Meanwhile, a squadron of F-16 fighter jets from the United Arab Emirates arrived in Jordan. The UAE has said it is sending the warplanes to support the kingdom, and a Jordanian government official has said they will participate in airstrikes on Islamic State group targets.

Jordanian officials vowed to harshly retaliate for the slaying of the pilot, Lt. Muath al-Kaseasbeh, who was set ablaze while trapped in a cage.

Police ID Ga. gunman

Police say they have identified the gunman who took his own life after killing four people and injuring two near Atlanta.

Cedric G. Prather, 33, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting his ex-wife, another adult and two children Saturday in Douglasville, about 20 miles west of Atlanta, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday. A hometown for Prather was not given.

The sheriff’s office also identified the adults killed as Latoya A. Andrews, Prather’s ex-wife; and Joseph Terry Brown. Both were 33 years old. A 7-year-old child died at the scene, and a 9-year-old was taken to a hospital but also died, the sheriff’s office said. Two other children, an 8-year-old and a 15-year-old, were in critical but stable condition at a hospital, authorities said. Authorities haven’t identified the children.
