Valley community showed strong support at walk

On Oct. 10 of this year, people from surrounding communities came together to support each other and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at the annual “Out of the Darkness” community walk at the Mill Creek MetroParks.

As my wife, Cindy, was named the chairperson for the event in late July, we were not sure how successful the event would be as we did not have a lot of time to plan. But it is with much pride that I can say that due to local sponsors, volunteers and just word of mouth, the walk was the most successful it has ever been.

Our goal was to raise $12,000 for education and research about suicide, the nation’s 10th leading cause of death. We had 838 registered participants and so far have raised over $30,315. We could not have done it without all of the help we received and the support needed to make such an event happen.

Thank you for your continued support and hope to see you at next year’s event.

Gift-card story touching

Happy Holidays Vindicator! The wonderful story about the Youngstown Police Department being given gift cards to give to needy people in the city brought tears to my eyes.

I wish you a Merry Christmas.
