POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Dec. 12
Criminal mischief: A van in the 40 block of Stambaugh Avenue was found with a broken driver’s-side window.
Vandalism: Someone in the 400 block of Mosier Road did an estimated $1,000 in damage to a small truck’s windshield.
Dec. 13
Arrest: Boardman police handed Joseph Derrico of Kensington Avenue, Youngstown, to Girard authorities. The 28-year-old Derrico was wanted on a probation-violation charge.
Theft: Six compact discs and a phone charger were removed from a car in the 400 block of Washington Avenue.
Theft: A man returned to his vehicle after leaving a U.S. Route 422 church and noticed a $350 global-positioning-system unit missing.
Menacing: A worker for a South State Street restaurant said a man had threatened to harm him.
Criminal mischief: A double-pane window was damaged at a residence in the 10 block of Navajo Drive.
Dec. 14
Burglary: To a residence in the 300 block of Illinois Avenue through a rear door. A 42-inch TV, $800 and two bottles of OxyContin tablets were stolen.
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a home in the 400 block of Illinois Avenue via a side door, though it appeared nothing was taken.
Theft: Fifteen CDs, two blankets, loose change and an electronic tablet were taken from a car in the 10 block of East Liberty Street.
Recovered property: An East Broadway Avenue woman’s 2011 Honda CR-V vehicle was recovered after she had reported it stolen.
Theft: An employee with a North State Street business reported two dolls and several other items stolen from her vehicle.
Misuse of a credit card: An Emma Street man discovered his debit card had been used to make two unauthorized purchases totaling about $88.
Dec. 15
Theft: A $1,500 vending machine was stolen from a North State Street auto-body business.
Theft: Two males reportedly stole $6 worth of food items from Save-a-Step Food Mart, 203 N. State St.
Dec. 16
Breaking and entering: Someone removed a metal gate next to a rear basement window at a residence in the 10 block of South Davis Street, then took 150 to 200 pounds of copper piping.
HUBBARD
Dec. 9
Illegal dumping: A police officer reported finding a couch, pieces of carpeting and paneling that had been dumped in a wooded area near Triangle Drive.
Dec. 10
Menacing: A West Liberty Street man told officers an irate neighbor stated that he should be thrown off a balcony after safety officials had responded to a fire alarm in the building.
Dec. 11
Summons: Police issued a summons charging 48-year-old Sheila A. Gartner of Saul Drive, Hubbard, with making a false alarm, a first-degree misdemeanor, after authorities responded to two 911 calls regarding a possible fight on Mackey Street in which Gartner claimed her son had been beaten up. She later admitted the fight never took place, a report showed.
LIBERTY
Dec. 11
Arrest: Weathersfield Township police relinquished custody of 22-year-old Ashley Young of Manchester Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.
Robbery: A Trumbull Court woman told police that a township man, 22, punched her face, grabbed her smartphone and fled after an argument related to rent money.
Drugs: Police near Goleta Avenue pulled over and charged 29-year-old Marc A. Ellington III of South Avenue, Boardman, with drug abuse after alleging 10 grams of suspected marijuana, a suspected marijuana pipe and papers commonly used to roll marijuana were found.
Dec. 12
Arrest: Officers received information regarding an erratic driver on a motorcycle before charging 59-year-old Frank J. Purnell of Ventura Drive, Liberty, with operating a vehicle impaired.
Trespassing: Police charged 38-year-old Troy B. Griffin of Ferndale Avenue, Youngstown, with criminal trespassing after a West Montrose Avenue woman alleged Griffin was one of two men who had come to her residence to harass her.
Arrest: Michael A. Henyard of Powder Mill Run Drive, Liberty, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after police alleged the 55-year-old man’s blood-alcohol count was 0.142 when they pulled him over near Hadley Avenue. Ohio’s legal limit is 0.08.
Criminal damaging: A man reported two windows had been broken at his residence in the 200 block of Yvonne Drive.
Theft: Officers received information that someone has been stealing diesel fuel from several company-owned vehicles at Meyer Distributing, 1061 Trumbull Ave.
Arrest: Terel E. Jones, 28, of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after having been pulled over near Goleta Avenue. Jones’ blood-alcohol count was 0.195, a report said. Ohio’s legal limit is 0.08.
Dec. 13
Criminal damaging: An East Montrose Avenue woman noticed a large hole in a storm window. The damage estimate was $900.
Drugs: Stephen G. Johnson Jr., 23, of Coronado Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with drug abuse after having been pulled over on Belmont Avenue and when, police alleged, he had a bag of suspected marijuana.
Theft/criminal damaging: Someone removed or damaged several inflatable Christmas decorations in a yard in the 1800 block of Lucretia Drive. The theft and damage came to about $1,250.
Dec. 14
Arrest: Austintown authorities transferred custody of 20-year-old William Craft to township police. Craft, of West LaClede Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant charging theft.
Fraud: A Laurel Street woman reported her stolen credit card had been used without authorization to make $511 worth of purchases at a Boardman big-box store.
Theft: A man in his early 20s reportedly grabbed an undisclosed sum of money from a cash register and fled from The Spot, a business at 3236 Belmont Ave.
Theft: Iosebi Giorbelidze, 50, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with theft and possession of criminal tools after miscellaneous electronics items and software were stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.
Arrest: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in 30-year-old Katelyn A. Bowden’s arrest. Bowden, of Ohio Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on charges of failing to appear in court and driving under suspension.
Dec. 15
Theft: While answering a shoplifting call at Walmart, police charged Teondrea T. Waller, 29, of East Avondale Avenue, Youngstown, with obstructing official business. Waller, who also was wanted on warrants, provided a phony name, a report stated.
Arrest: Campbell police handed to township authorities 21-year-old Shamar J. Robbins of Hadley Avenue, Liberty. Robbins was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.
Theft: A man reportedly took but never returned $610 worth of consignment goods from a business in the 1200 block of Trumbull Avenue.
