Local 1714 hands out 250 boxes of food to families in need

LORDSTOWN — The United Auto Workers Local 1714 will give out 250 boxes of food today to families in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The 1,400 Local 1714 members raised more then $11,000 to go toward the food giveaway, which includes a turkey, potatoes and apples.

General Motors Fabrication Plant workers and retirees gathered at the 1714 union hall on Salt Springs Road to give back. Boxes will be handed out to selected families in need until 5 p.m.

"This is one of many ways we give back to the community," said Robert Morales, president of the Local 1714. "It's an all around great feeling."
