Valley's jobless rate dropped in July

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley’s non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate dropped down to 6 percent in July from 7.2 percent in July 2014, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said Tuesday.

Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties saw a more than a 3,000 drop in unemployment year over year and a gain of 1,800 in employment.

The civilian labor force, which is comprised of workers at 16 years of age and up seeking work, dropped by 2,000.

In Mahoning County alone, the jobless rate dropped from 7.1 percent in July 2014 down to 6 percent in July 2015.

Trumbull County’s jobless rate went from 7.6 percent to 6.2 percent.

Columbiana County’s jobless rate dropped year over year from 6.7 percent down to 5.7 percent.

The state’s July seasonally-adjusted unemployment unemployment rate reported Friday was 5 percent, down from 5.2 percent in June.

The U.S. unemployment rate for July was 5.3 percent, unchanged from June and down from 6.2 percent in July 2014.
