Weekly Lake Newport test results expected this afternoon from county health board

Thursday, August 20, 2015

YOUNGSTOWN — Results from this week’s round of E. coli testing at Lake Newport are expected this afternoon from the Mahoning County District Board of Health.

This week marks the fourth in a 12-week program initiated by the health board after earlier tests determined that there were elevated levels of E. coli in Lake Newport.

Technicians collect three samples each from three different locations in Lake Newport and Mill Creek each week.

Lake Newport, as well as all other Mill Creek MetroParks waterways, have been closed since July 10 until further notice.

Initial testing was a response to a massive fish kill in the lake at the end of June.
