Mahoning County commissioners approved a contract to provide about $30,440 in engineering services for a sanitary-sewer extension project along Pineview Drive in Austintown.
The agreement with North Lima-based Buckeye Civil Design LLC. is based on coming up with a design for the improvement on Pineview Drive, off Ohltown Road.It will consider the area’s topography and other factors, William M. Coleman of the Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer’s office said during Wednesday’s commissioners’ meeting.
Many of the estimated 18 homes on the dead-end street have septic systems that have malfunctioned, which has allowed pollutants to seep into some of the area’s creeks and streams, Coleman explained, adding that the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has ordered the construction of the system.
Before the project gets underway, a public hearing will take place to allow residents to offer their input and explain to them the potential costs, he said.
In other business, commissioners have approved an agreement with Jack Gibson Construction Co. of Warren to install two bar screens and a compactor at the Campbell Wastewater Treatment Plant on Wilson Avenue.
The contract will provide $19,297 to the company for labor costs, and the equipment from Huntersville, N.C.-based Huber Technology Inc. is estimated at $148,000, Coleman noted.
The next commissioners’ meeting is set for 10 a.m. next Thursday in the Mahoning County Courthouse basement.
