CLEVELAND (AP) — The body of former U.S. Rep. Louis Stokes will lie in the rotunda of Cleveland City Hall followed by a public program to honor Ohio’s first black congressman.
The 90-year-old Stokes died Tuesday at his northeast Ohio home of cancer. Stokes’ body will be in the city hall rotunda from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to allow the public to pay its respects.
A public appreciation program will begin at 5:45 p.m. Monday and will include remarks by some of Stokes’ former congressional colleagues, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and others.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in Cleveland. Burial services will be private.
