Trumbull grand jury declines to indict officer in Weathersfield Township shooting

WARREN — A Trumbull County grand jury has indicted Edward Kitt of Weathersfield Township on misdemeanor charges but declined to indict a Weathersfield police officer who fired several shots at Kitt last March on West Park Avenue in Weathersfield.

Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins issued a news release today saying the grand jury did not indict Officer Christian Thoma, who fired his service weapon at Kitt's van after Kitt crashed the van into the back of a Weathersfield patrol car that was parked during an unrelated traffic stop.

Thoma fired because Kitt drove at a fellow Weathersfield officer, Sgt. Maynard Tally, nearly hitting Tally, Watkins said.
