The Hubbard city and township police have presented donations to local nonprofits.

Both departments raised the money at National Night Out, which took place Aug. 4 at Harding Park. The National Association of Town Watch sponsors “Night Out” events in more than 15,000 communities in the U.S. and Canada with the goal of improving community-police relations.

In a ceremony Tuesday at the township police department, Hubbard Christians in Action and St. Patrick Food Pantry received $444 each from Hubbard’s National Night Out proceeds. Both organizations offer food to needy individuals.

Chuck Hudak, president of Hubbard Christians in Action, said the organization serves about 50 families a month and that most beneficiaries are elderly.

“Some of them have medicines that are so expensive that it’s hard for them to afford food,” Hudak said.

Mike Heinzer, vice president of St. Patrick Food Pantry, said the donations are a testament to the generosity of the Hubbard community. The pantry serves between 100 and 150 families a month, Heinzer said.

Hubbard city police officer Dominic Pagano praised the work of both organizations. “They’re absolutely a great resource for us anytime we get someone’s who’s down on their luck or who just needs a little bit of help,” he said.
