Five years of probation for felonious assault

YOUNGSTOWN

A 58-year-old Boardman man, who pleaded guilty to felonious assault, domestic violence and kidnapping, has been sentenced to five years of probation.

Orlando Torres, of South Avenue, drew the sentence Thursday from Judge John M. Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Torres was arrested Oct. 6 at his residence after his live-in girlfriend called 911 and told police Torres had punched her in the face multiple times, held a pillow over her face for several minutes, held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.

The victim told police the assault occurred after she told Torres she wanted to end the relationship.

Torres was previously convicted of domestic violence in Youngstown Municipal Court in January 1999.

After the victim urged a non-prison sentence, the judge imposed the probation, telling Torres he must not drink alcohol or use illegal drugs and must complete a rehabilitation program he’s enrolled in at the Rescue Mission.
