Winona Avenue brawl defendant pleads no contest

YOUNGSTOWN — One of 10 remaining defendants in the death of a 17-year-old following a brawl on Winona Drive Aug. 17 is pleading no contest in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to charges of aggravated riot and involuntary manslaughter.

Judge Lou D'Apolito told Dewuann Fleeton he will find him guilty of the charges.

Shawn Cortez was killed in the brawl between two families.

Four people have entered guilty pleas in the case before today. Fleeton and nine others have their trials set for today.
