A third plea deal reached in Winona Avenue brawl case
YOUNGSTOWN — The third defendant set to be tried in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court today for his role in a brawl that took the life of 17-year-old Shawn Cortez Aug. 17 on Winona Drive has pleaded no contest to charges of aggravated riot and involuntary manslaughter.
Rontrell White, 27, was found guilty by Judge Lou D'Apolito. A sentencing date has not been set.
Police say Cortez was killed during a brawl between two families. Three of 14 defendants were to be tried today and four have already pleaded guilty.
White had twice today said he would plead guilty and took the plea back.
Other defendants will stand trial next week.
