BREAKING NEWS | 7 local RadioShack stores to close; five to reopen under new model

YOUNGSTOWN — Eight local RadioShack locations either have closed or will close by early June at the latest, the company said today.

These stores are 429 E. Main St., Canfield; Eastwood Mall, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road Niles; New Castle Union Store, 2521 W. State St. New Castle, Pa.; 2553 Parkman Road, Warren; 5880 Mahoning Ave. Austintown; 3320 Wilmington Road, New Castle; and 2331 E. State St. Hermitage, Pa.

Five local stores will become Sprint/RadioShack stores: Lawrence Village Plaza, 2650 Ellwood Road, New Castle; 7131 Tiffany Blvd., Boardman; 3551 Belmont Ave., Liberty; 2362 E. State St. Salem; and 3061 Elm Road, Warren.

Fort Worth, Texas-based RadioShack Corp. announced in February it had reached an agreement with General Wireless Inc., an affiliate of Standard General L.P., to acquire 1,500 to 2,400 of the nearly 4,000 company-owned RadioShacks. RadioShack filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code to put this transaction in effect.
