UPDATE: Youngstown police have leads in this afternoon's homicide on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN

Police do have some leads to follow after a man was shot dead on the South Side Sunday afternoon.

William P. Jones, 55, was gunned down in front of a relatives’ home on East Princeton Avenue.

Jones was homeless, the relative told the Vindicator. He was there to get a sandwich.

“Somebody went up the street in a black car,” said the relative, who did not want to give his name. “Five minutes after that, we heard two gunshots and he was laying right there.”

He pointed to the yard in front of his house.

He said he doesn’t know of anyone who would want to hurt Jones, but Jones did not tell him “if he’s doing stuff.”

The dead-end street behind McDonald’s on Market Street is usually very quiet, he said.

The homicide is the second of the weekend. A 28-year-old man was found shot to death on South Jackson Street on Friday.
