Fire’s cause ruled as undetermined

YOUNGSTOWN

The cause of a March 19 fire that destroyed a Market Street business will officially be undetermined.

Fire Department Capt. Alvin Ware, head of the Fire Investigation Unit, said investigators cannot determine the cause of a fire that destroyed Asphalt Solutions because of the extensive amount of damage done to the business and a vacant home that abuts it.

Ware said the blaze started in the vacant home, but the fire was so intense there that a cause cannot be determined.

The blaze destroyed the business and the vehicles inside. The owner has said he plans to stay in business.

The victim said he was playing a video game inside a house in the 2100 block when he heard a gunshot and realized he’d been shot in the legs. Three males took him to the hospital and dropped him off without identifying themselves, police said.

Drug charges

BOARDMAN

A township man faces multiple drug-related charges after police stopped him on Southern Boulevard at Meadowbrook Avenue earlier this week.

Richard Cummings, 42, of Firnley Avenue is charged with felony drug possession and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug-abuse instruments and paraphernalia. He also had warrants out of Youngstown Municipal Court for failure to appear on drug and traffic charges.

Police stopped him Monday, according to a report, after they saw him get out of a vehicle police know to be used for drug deals and then found heroin plus a needle, spoon, residue and a crack pipe on him. Cummings was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
