A common pleas court judge has denied the city of Toledo’s request that organizers and protesters be prevented from carrying guns at a neo-Nazi rally.
The Toledo Blade reports Lucas County Judge Michael Goulding denied the request Thursday, saying it would circumvent the law and protesters’ rights.
City attorneys say the request was made for public safety.
Members of the National Socialist Movement are planning a rally in downtown Toledo Saturday afternoon. The same group came to Toledo in 2005, sparking a riot that ended with 100 arrests.
Police are planning to keep the group separated from protesters who will be across the street. They’ll also close off several downtown streets and set up a special entrance into the area.
Mayor Paula Hicks- Hudson says she’s disappointed by the ruling.
