The Dairy Queen in Cornersburg celebrated Free Cone Day on March 16. Every year the company celebrates a day of free ice cream cones with optional donation towards a chosen charity. This year, the charity was Akron Children’s Hospital.

The drive through line was steadily out to the road in front of Dairy Queen and the line inside was constant.

Volunteers Julia Jones, Emily Kollar and Marta Hergenrother collected money in the doorway, giving those the opportunity to donate on their way in or out.

Sabrina Williams, one of the crew members, working Free Cone Day said it was an excellent way to spread more awareness and get some help raising money.

Allison Ben, another crew member, said she loves working Free Cone Day and the huge turnout that they always get.

“It’s hectic, but fun,” Ben said. “It’s a big chance to raise money for Akron.”

Free Cone Day contributes to more than just benefits for the charity, however.

Ben said she has a special connection to this charity event — she intends to pursue a nursing career.

Williams said she was excited to see so much business.

“It makes us busy and is good training for our newer people,” Williams said.
