A stop for loud and vulgar music downtown early Monday led to the arrest of a woman who reports said had a loaded handgun and a knife on her.
Keyana Sheronn-Latrice Floyd, 28, of Wirt Street, was taken to the Mahoning County jail on two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct and failure to identify. Reports said she also had a traffic warrant from 2011 in municipal court.
Officers on patrol at 20 W. Federal St. about 9 a.m. stopped Floyd and a man and woman she was with after they heard loud and vulgar music coming from a speaker Floyd was carrying for the man’s phone, reports said.
Reports said Floyd told police she was not saying the words. Officers told her that they were in a public place with people around and that the music was offensive, and Floyd asked them: “Why are you messing with me over some music?”
As police spoke to Floyd, the man and woman who were with her walked away, reports said. Officers asked Floyd for her name, but she provided a false name and date of birth.
Reports said Floyd fidgeted and tried to give some of her things to a man who was nearby but police told her that was not allowed. When they tried to handcuff her to take her into custody for disorderly conduct, she began yelling that they were breaking her arm, but reports said no extra force was needed to place Floyd into custody.
When asked if she had weapons, Floyd first denied she did then admitted she had a gun and a knife in her pockets. Police found a loaded .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun and a knife as well as two bags of supsected marijuana, reports said. Reports said Floyd told police she carries the weapons because “people are after me.”
Floyd told officers she gave false information about her identity because she thought she had a warrant, reports said.
