Truck crashes

SHALERSVILLE, OHIO

State troopers say the driver of a truck from a Canfield lumber company is lucky to be alive after a crash in Portage County along the Ohio Turnpike.

Investigators told 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, a Baird Brothers truck ran into the back of a tractor-trailer that had a flat tire and was attempting to pull off the turnpike just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.

A medical helicopter took the driver of the Baird truck to Cleveland Metro Hospital with injuries described as serious, but not life threatening.

Troopers said the driver, whose name has not been released, was following too closely. The investigation continues, however, and no citation had been issued as of late Tuesday.

Troopers said that if the driver hadn’t been wearing a seat belt, he may have been killed in the accident.
