Shepherd of the Valley’s board of directors has approved a $5.7 million capital project to add 32 short-term rehabilitation beds at its Poland Assisted Living Community at 301 W. Western Reserve Road.
The 23,624-square-foot project includes an 1,800-square-foot therapy room with a pool with treadmill capabilities. A larger chapel, a multipurpose room and additional offices also are part of the project.
Shepherd of the Valley plans to break ground for the project in March 2016 and expects the new construction to be completed 12 months later. It is completing the certificate-of-need process to transfer 32 beds from its Boardman facility to Poland.
Boardman Shepherd of the Valley, licensed for 89 beds, will have 57 beds once the 32 are moved to the Poland Community, the only SOV community without short-term rehabilitation beds.
“We developed an ad hoc committee with our board of directors to discuss the future direction of Shepherd of the Valley. We are committed to person-centered care and have decided that moving forward, all of our campuses will offer the full continuum of care to accommodate our resident’s needs as they age in place,” said Richard Limongi, SOV executive director.
The committee put special emphasis on patient-centered care when developing the plans.
The Poland SOV building will have three neighborhoods, all with private rooms and private full bathrooms. The common areas were designed with residents in mind and include an outdoor patio and a happy hour lounge.
“Our staff excels at giving compassionate care. We wanted to make sure we considered residents’ lifestyle and gave them options that were comfortable while creating a memorable social experience,” Limongi said.
Shepherd of the Valley is working with the Howland architecture firm Baker, Bednar, Snyder and Associates. A contractor has not been selected.
The facilities are owned by Shepherd of the Valley Luthern Retirement Services Inc.
