Police arrested a man on attempted burglary and child-endangering charges Monday after reports said he left an infant alone in a house while he was trying to break into a house across the street.

Police were called to the 500 block of Ferndale Avenue about 12:25 p.m. for a report of a man trying to get inside a home, and when they arrived, they found a man matching the description of the burglar, later identified as Anthony Divencenzo, 32, of Ferndale Avenue.

Reports said Divencenzo told police he was friends with the person who lived at the home and he was investigating a noise he heard in the back. Reports said Divencenzo had a cut on his wrist that was bleeding, and police found broken glass at the home. A witness told police it was Divencenzo who broke in. Another witness told police there was a 4-month-old girl in the home Divencenzo was in, and Divencenzo said it was his girlfriend’s child.

The baby was found inside covered with a blanket and was not harmed, reports said.

The girlfriend was called to take care of the child, reports said. Divencenzo was taken to the Mahoning County jail. He also faces an additional charge of possessing drug-abuse instruments because he had a needle on him.

Reports said the home Divencenzo is accused of breaking into also was broken into March 28 and April 1.
