BASEBALL

Champion 2, Girard 1

CHAMPION

Michael Turner drilled a walk-off, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Golden Flashes beat the Indians for the second straight day in a one-run game. Turner and Seth Thomas each had two hits for Champion (7-1, 4-1 All-American Conference). Chris Miller scattered five hits for the victory.

Warren Harding 2, Austintown Fitch 1

AUSTINTOWN

The Falcons’ Jared Kapturasky took a shutout into the seventh, but the Raiders’ Doug Painter delivered a two-run double to eventually win the game for Harding. Kapturasky struck out 10 in the defeat. Painter had three of the six hits he allowed. Tyler Jackson pitched a four-hitter and struck out six for the Raiders. Dominic DiFrancesco had two hits and drove in the Falcons’ only run.

Howland 3, Boardman 0

BOARDMAN

Michael Massucci scattered six hits and struck out five as the Tigers improved to 3-3. Craig Lewis, Vinny Ruberto and Austin Cooley each drove in a run for Howland. Lewis had a triple and Nick Loychik had a double for the Tigers.

Western Reserve 3, Mineral Ridge 0

BERLIN CENTER

Drew Slaven had an RBI single and Wyatt Larimer and Walker Marlowe combined for a four-hit shutout. The Blue Devils (5-2) scored all three runs in the sixth. Aaron Frantz had three hits for theRams (3-4).

Lisbon 9, Leetonia 6

LEETONIA

Avery Andric had three hits, including a double and triple, and four RBIs in the Blue Devils’ victory.

Niles 8, Edgewood 1

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP

Richard Limongi went 4-for-4 with two doubles and drove in three runs in the Red Dragons’ victory. Murphy Miller doubled and had two RBIs and Marco DeFalco also drove in two runs for Niles. Jaret Johnson pitched a two-hitter and took a shutout into the sixth inning.

Poland 10, Lakeview 0

CORTLAND

Eric White threw four shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing two hits, as Poland shuts down Lakeview (2-4). Marty Malenic went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jared Burkert knocked in three runs and scored once for the Bulldogs (7-0). Poland scored seven runs in the second inning.

Springfield 11, United 0, five innings

HANOVERTON

Mark Schuler pitched five innings allowing two hits and striking out six. Ian Grdina added doubles and Dalton Donachie had two RBIs for the Tigers (6-2).

Jackson-Milton 11, McDonald 4

MCDONALD

Nate Clark went six innings allowing five hits and striking out seven. Clark and Justin Rentz combined for four hits and four RBIs offensively for the Bluejays. Mike Soots had three hits for the Blue Devils.

Lowellvile 1, Sebring 0

STRUTHERS

At Cene Park, Tyler Barone pitched a complete game shutout and struk out eight. Matt Hines was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Struthers

Louie Resdinico pitched four innings giving up one hit. Brett Nemeth had two hits and a RBI for the Wildcats.

Heartland Christian 11, Lordstown 1, five innings

COLUMBIANA

Phil Bell went four innings allowing two hits. Bell had three hits including a home run for the Lions(5-1). Nathan Sommers had a home run and two RBIs.

Crestview 7, East Palestine 5

NEW WATERFORD

Chris Bryan, Riley Mackall and Josh McGoogin each had two hits each as the Rebels (6-1, 2-0 ITCL) won their home opener. Andy Gorby and Dylan Dickey combined to scatter seven hits and strike out eight. The Bulldogs are now 6-3.

Columbiana 9, Wellsville 0

COLUMBIANA

Devin Rice pitched a two-hitter and singled, doubled and drove in three runs as the Clippers (5-4, 2-0 ITCL) won their fifth straight game.

Canfield 18, Lakeside 1

STRUTHERS

Joey Machuga pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 11 as the Cardinals (7-2) beat the Dragons. Joe Delucia had three hits and five RBIs for Canfield.

SOFTBALL

Champion 6, Girard 2

CHAMPION

Megan Turner hit a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Golden Flashes (6-1, 4-1 All-America Conference). Champion trailed 2-1, but Alayna Fell led off with a walk and Haylee Gardiner delivered a one-out single. Alex Steigerwald then dropped a bunt single and Fell scored to tie the game after a rundown. With two outs, Molly Williams was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Turner. McKenzie Zigmont also homered for the Golden Flashes. Melanie Bakes had two hits for Girard (3-2, 2-2), while Turner and Steigerwald each had two hits for Champion.

Mathews 11, Lordstown 1

VIENNA

Cheyenne Eggens picked up her fourth win of the season and helped hersefl out by driving in five runs at the plate. Eggens added a home run and a double for Mathews (4-1, 1-1). Karli Romesberg scored three runs and stole a base in the win.

McDonald 9, Jackson-Milton 3

MCDONALD

Rachel Ward went seven innings striking out 10. Kerrigan McDermott went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and Morgan Green added two hits and a RBI for the Blue Devils. Michaelina Terranova had two hits for the Bluejays.

Western Reserve 10, Mineral Ridge 7

BERLIN CENTER

Maddie Krietzburg singled three times and drove in two runs and also pitched four innings for the victory as the Blue Devils (3-3, 3-0 ITCL) beat the Rams (2-3, 0-2). Jenny Stubbs and Alexis Miller each had two hits and Tory White and Aleah Hughes each had run-scoring triples for Western Reserve. Darby Kolesar singled, doubled and homered for Mineral Ridge and Allie Watkins singled, homered and had two RBIs.

Poland 5, Boardman 4

POLAND

Audrey Scheers doubled and drove in two runs and teammates Amanda Wire, Brielle Nocero and Jenna Schettler each had an RBI as the Bulldogs beat the Spartans. Kristen Svetlak worked 51/3 innings and struck out five for the win and Ally Deemer pitched the final 12/3 innings for a save. Boardman fell despite home runs by Kristin Huck and S. Aey.

Canton Central Catholic 8, Ursuline 7

CANTON

Canton Central Catholic (3-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a come-from-behind victory. Megan Ross, Cassie Hanushak, Christina Xenakis and Lorraine Fitzgerald each had 2 hits for the Irish (4-4).

Cardinal Mooney 17, East 3

BOARDMAN

Britany Hendricks homered and drove in three runs and Kayla Rutherford singled, doubled and had three RBIs for the Cardinals (3-1). Damani Santiago had two hits for Cardinal Mooney, which scored 11 runs in the first inning. Pitcher Bridget Sweeney pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine.

Brookfield 11, Liberty 1

BROOKFIELD

The Warriors broke open a close game with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. Destiny May singled twice and had a triple and Alisa Quinlan drove in two runs for Brookfield. Amy Mikulich homered for the lone run for the Leopards. Quinlan took a shutout into the fifth.

Jefferson 8, Hubbard 5, 11 innings

HUBBARD

Jefferson’s Bailey Beckwith improved to 6-2 and 4-1 in the league with an extra-inning win over Hubbard. Alyssa Irons had three doubles and the Falcons’ winning runs scored with two outs on back-to-back doubles. Morgan Kist dropped to 4-4 for the Eagles.

Windham 29, Bloomfield 0

WINDHAM

Sabrina Garl had three singles, a double, scored five runs and drove in three as the Bombers beat the Cardinals. Samantha Dean singled twice, tripled and scored four runs for Windham. Lexi Knight pitched a five-inning no-hitter for Windham (5-1).

Lakeview 11, Struthers 1

STRUTHERS

Avery Steiner , Kylee Mann, Sam Marino and Tori Wells each ripped three hits and Steiner pitched three shutout innings for the Bulldogs (4-1). Mann doubled twice and had two RBIs. Wells and Marino also drove in two runs each. Hannah Rodgers and Alex Romano each had two hits for Lakeview.
