Suspect refuses to let Boardman cops into his residence

BOARDMAN

Township police are consulting with the Mahoning County Prosecutor's office to determine if additional charges should be filed against a suspect in the Struthers branding case after the suspect reportedly obstructed official police business when township police tried to arrest him on a warrant.

According to a police report, police officers went to a residence on Massachusetts Avenue after Struthers Municipal Court asked the Boardman Police Department to handle the felony warrant.

When police went to the apartment on Saturday, two people inside refused to acknowledge the officers at the door.

Officers went to the residence again on Sunday and entered the apartment with the assistance of the landlord.

The suspect, whose name was redacted from the report because he has not been charged for this incident, then surrendered to police.

According to the report, he told officers he had ignored them the night before because he fears that he is facing "serious prison time" because of a felony indictment for the branding incident.

He also told police he intended to flee the area had he not been apprehended.
