Campbell police arrest man on drug charge

CAMPBELL

A 37-year-old city man is spending the next couple of days in jail, following his Monday arrest on charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and fleeing and eluding a police officer.

David J. Christian of Morley Avenue, who also was cited for several traffic violations, will appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Friday.

Police attempted to pull over Christian shortly after 4 p.m. Monday for having a number of items hanging from his rearview mirror, but instead of stopping, Christian turned onto Morley Avenue and began to speed up; Christian eventually pulled into the driveway of his home, located in the 10 block of the street.

According to a report, police immediately noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the car. Then, when asked why he did not submit to the traffic stop, Christian said he felt he didn't do anything wrong and shouldn't have to stop. Police attempted to place Christian under arrest, but he refused to get out of the car and obey police commands. After he was handcuffed, police found 1.7 grams of suspected marijuana on Christian.

The car's passenger - Latasha M. Christian, 38, of the same address - admitted to police that though she knew he had a suspended driver's license, she let him drive her car anyway. She was arrested and charged with wrongful entrustment, then given a Campbell Municipal Court date of Friday.
