Court managers

Two Youngstown court officials were among 39 people statewide who recently became certified court managers upon completion of a three-year training program.

Angela Frederick, assignment commissioner, and David A. Thompson, chief probation officer, both of Youngstown Municipal Court, completed the court management training program offered by the Ohio Supreme Court Judicial College and the National Center for State Courts.

Quarter horse event

Megan D’Andrea of Fowler has been selected by the American Quarter Horse Youth Association as one of 12 members who will travel to Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa, from Oct. 17 to 18 for the Association’s National Conference.

During the two-day event, youths will be placed with trainers who will allow them to participate in aspects of preparing a horse for a race.

In addition to being involved with trainers, jockeys and racehorses, the youth members also will learn about the regulatory, business and management structure associated with the pari-mutuel industry and explore the wide range of career opportunities associated with American Quarter Horse racing.

D’Andrea will be competing for $6,000 worth of scholarships based on her overall scores from the pre-experience notebook, the second half of the notebook completed at the experience and the barn test.

Top AQHYA members were chosen through a nomination and application process for this all-expense-paid trip. The participants, age 16-18, have a wide range of experience with horses and knowledge of racing. All belong to AQHYA, whose membership comprises nearly 26,000 equine enthusiasts ages 18 and younger.
