POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Sept. 19

Theft: Miscellaneous coins were stolen from vehicles in the 1700 block of Bedford Road.

Sept. 20

Criminal damaging: Part of a concrete patio was damaged at a residence in the 7800 block of Via Attilio Place.

BOARDMAN

Sept. 19

Arrest: Authorities charged 19-year-old Zachary T. Amatore of West Boulevard, Boardman, with tampering with a fire hydrant, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, and obstructing official business after responding to a suspicious person who had reportedly attached a hose to a hydrant near Ewing Road. Amatore also lied about being a New Middletown firefighter, police said.

Burglary: To a residence in the 7500 block of Glenwood Avenue, though police found no signs of forced entry. Stolen were a 24-inch TV, a laptop computer, an Xbox system and other items, for a $4,100 loss.

Fraud: A Wildwood Drive man who had answered an online ad told police he later received a $1,900 check from Grand Rapids, Mich., along with a series of emails instructing him to cash and keep part of it before discovering the check was fraudulent.

Identity fraud: A Youngstown woman alleged her husband has committed fraud in several jurisdictions, including Boardman, over a three-year period.

Identity theft: A North Cadillac Drive man discovered someone re-filled a prescription bottle at a township pharmacy without authorization, which led him to realize the medication had been stolen.

Misuse of a credit card: An Atwater woman learned that her missing credit card had been used at several area locations without consent to rack up $64.30 worth of fraudulent charges.

Theft: Justin D. McCune, 23, of Ensign Road, West Farmington, was charged in the theft of three Sony PlayStation 4 game controllers and a DVD from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Stolen property: John J. Delliquadri, 21, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant charging receiving stolen property after a family member reported an $800 bass guitar stolen. She also discovered online and learned secondhand that the guitar had been sold to another party, a report showed.

Theft: Police charged Ashley M. Adams of Hawthorne Street, Struthers, with theft after alleging the 18-year-old woman had stolen an $80 sweatshirt from Victoria Secret Pink in Southern Park Mall.

Fraud: A teller with a Boardman-Poland Road bank reported a caller claimed she owes the Internal Revenue Service $87,000 and faces five felony charges. Later in the call, the person modified the claim, offering to have her pay only $3,700, supposedly based on a favorable background check, which led the accuser to realize it was a scam.

Theft: Hope L. Phillips, 30, of Lynn Street, East Liverpool, was charged with stealing two 25-foot network cables from Walmart.

Arrest: Officers responded to a report of someone tampering with a shopping cart at a Boardman-Poland Road store, where they issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 26-year-old Joseph W. Jenkins Jr. of Lisbon Road, Canfield, with disorderly conduct while intoxicated. Jenkins also was wanted on a Pennsylvania warrant charging him with failure to appear in court on a drug charge.

Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen while in the 90 block of Homestead Drive.

Sept. 20

Aggravated menacing: A Gertrude Avenue man told authorities a subcontractor with whom he has a civil disagreement threatened to have people kill the accuser.

Animal neglect: Several cats reportedly were abandoned at a residence in the 1800 block of Brandon Avenue, though a neighbor said she provided food and water to the animals. Also, the cats did not appear to be in distress, a police report said.

Arrest: A vehicle check in the 4000 block of Market Street led to the arrest of Johnnelle M. Burroughs, 24, of Elbertus Avenue, Youngstown. Burroughs was wanted on a bench warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Citations: A traffic stop near South Avenue resulted in citations charging 70-year-old Brian E. McGuire of Lynn Mar Avenue, Boardman, with operating a vehicle impaired as well as possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Harassment: An Eisenhower Drive woman said a man made and sent offensive calls and text messages, as well as inappropriate photographs, to her.

Theft: Authorities charged 38-year-old Stacy R. Miranda with theft after alleging Miranda, of West 10th Street, Salem, had stolen nearly $500 worth of merchandise, including a hooded jacket, from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.

Domestic violence: Austintown authorities handed to Boardman police 28-year-old Daniel R. Parker of Parkgate Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on charges of domestic violence and violating a protection order. Parker’s former wife, of Flagler Lane, alleged that he came to her home on foot, in violation of the order, and, during an argument, poured a can of soda in her vicinity in a threatening manner.

Recovered property: An officer assisting the Mahoning County Operating a Vehicle Impaired Task Force conducted a traffic stop near Simon Road and discovered the 1998 Plymouth Breeze vehicle had been stolen in Youngstown. No charges were filed at the time of the report, however.

Theft: A Lockwood Boulevard man discovered a $400 iPad missing from his residence.

Theft: An employee who had been terminated from a Boardman-Canfield Road car dealership reportedly failed to return $300 worth of miscellaneous tools.

Theft: A laptop computer was missing from an apartment in the 1900 block of Wolosyn Circle.

Trespassing: Police booked 31-year-old John S. Probst IV of Clifton Drive, Boardman, on a criminal-trespassing charge after a woman reported Probst was asleep at her mother’s Thalia Avenue residence in violation of a criminal-trespassing warning.

Theft: A Grover Drive man told police that another man who claimed to have a mechanical problem with a vehicle likely stole his wallet.

Sept. 21

Aggravated menacing: Robert V. Walla, 28, of Lakewood Drive, Hubbard, faced an aggravated-menacing charge after a Cedar Way woman alleged Walla had damaged several doors at her residence during an argument, causing the accuser to hide and fear for her safety.

Arrest: Police near an Interstate 680 on-ramp stopped James H. Stacy of Arrel Road, Lowellville, and charged the 45-year-old man with operating a vehicle while impaired.

Burglary: Took place in the 7700 block of East Parkside Drive via a side door. A 52-inch TV was taken.

Citations: A suspicious vehicle in the 400 block of Bev Road caught the attention of police, who issued minor-misdemeanor citations to Walter L. Colbrunn III of Stadler Avenue, and Francis M. Ravotti III of Salinas Trail. The two 24-year-old Boardman men were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Criminal damaging: Gang-related graffiti was found in the road on Alburn Drive and on a garage in the 4100 block of Hillman Way.

Theft: A global-positioning-system unit, a cellphone charger and $5 were removed from a car parked in the 7100 block of Sheldon Avenue.

Criminal damaging: A 13-year-old Campbell girl was accused of spray-painting a street sign near Lemans Drive and Brookwood Road.

Harassment: An employee with a Youngstown-Poland Road convenience store reported having gotten a threatening call.

Theft: Youngstown police relinquished custody of 35-year-old Latonya L. Fowler, who was wanted on a warrant. Fowler, of Crandall Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of stealing a $105 pair of shoes and a key chain Sept. 10 from a Southern Park Mall kiosk.

Theft: An employee for a business in Shops at Boardman Park reported her purse stolen while at work.

Arrest: Authorities received information about a possibly intoxicated driver on a motorcycle on U.S. Route 224 before they charged Steven H. Ervin, 42, of East Philadelphia Avenue, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired. Ervin’s blood-alcohol count was 0.178, more than twice the legal limit, a report stated.

Sept. 22

Arrest: Jabre D. Toomer, 22, was taken into custody at his Erie Street residence on a warrant charging obstructing official business after police responded to a report that someone had failed to pay a $9.31 tab at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Southern Park Mall. After the theft, the Boardman man fled on foot when authorities tried to pull him over, they said.

Criminal damaging: A picnic-table umbrella was damaged on a patio in the 900 block of Augusta Drive.

Domestic violence: Baljit R. Singh, 31, of Sayreville, N.J., surrendered on a domestic-violence charge after a July 25 situation in which an Indianola Road woman alleged Singh had punched her throat when she tried to stop him from taking $13,500 and $25,000 worth of jewelry from her residence.

Menacing: A Brookfield Avenue man said he received a text message containing a threat that he would be beaten up.

Theft: A man and a woman in their 30s reportedly stole five video-game controllers and a video game from Walmart.

Theft/child endangering: A man pushing a baby stroller reportedly stole a $500 video-game console from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Campbell police handed 35-year-old Dallas L. Humphrey of West Chalmers Avenue, Youngstown, to township authorities. Humphrey was wanted on two theft warrants after being accused of stealing $70 worth of bedding materials from Dollar General, 271 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft by deception: A Youngstown man told police that while at the Southern Park Mall, another man asked for a ride to a township bank and for him to cash a check before the accuser was informed that the check had been deposited on a closed account.

Domestic violence: A township boy, 16, was booked after his mother alleged the teen had twice pushed her backward during an argument related to missing money.
