YOUNGSTOWN

Police found a bag of suspected heroin, eight pills and almost $2,000 in cash after pulling over a car for running a stop sign on the South Side.

Reports said the driver of the car, Quinton Leroy James, 35, of Youngstown, pulled into a drive in the 500 block of West Willis Avenue when officers signaled him to pull him over about 2:45 p.m. Thursday. When they asked for his driver’s license, he opened up the center console where a marijuana grinder was visible that had suspected marijuana in it.

James was told he was under arrest and taken out of the car, reports said. The pills were found in a cigarette pack he had, and the suspected heroin was in his pants, reports said. He also had $1,905 in cash, reports said, and a records check revealed he had a warrant for failure to appear from municipal court and several open suspensions on his driver’s license.

James was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, the warrant and driving under suspension. The money was taken by police as evidence.
