UPDATE | Officers kill man on state Route 11 after chase

LIBERTY — A man was shot and killed by police after a chase on state Route 11 just south of Tibbetts-Wick Road this morning

Lt.. Brian Holt of the Southington Barracks of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said deputies with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office were chasing the vehicle, which was reported stolen, when troopers laid down stop sticks, which stopped the vehicle.

The man in the car had a gun and shots were fired. He died about 12:10 p.m. of his wounds.

Holt said not much more information is available. He said there will be a press conference at 5 p.m. today at the post.

Weathersfield police were also involved but at this point no one knows who fired the shots or if the driver of the car fired, Holt said.

Holt said state Route 11 southbound from the Tibbetts-Wick Road exit will be closed down for several hours this afternoon as crime scene personnel collect evidence. He said he did not know where the chase began or where the car was reported stolen from.
