CANFIELD

Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, Choffin Career & Technical Center and Trumbull Career & Technical Center have joined forces with the Oh-Penn Manufacturing Collaborative to inform students, their parents and the public of the career opportunities available at a wide range of local manufacturers.

Jeremy Bout, host of “The Edge Factor” on YouTube, will be the featured speaker Wednesday at MCCTC, 7300 N. Palmyra Road. The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. A similar event will take place at TCTC, 528 Educational Highway NW, in Champion Heights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Ryan announces funds for center

AKRON

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, announced $2.5 million in federal funds for the construction of the Bits and Atoms Innovation Center here.

The Bits and Atoms Innovation Center will be an acceleration/incubator hybrid and will consist of technology-rich collaborative workspaces to foster collaboration and opportunities for Northeast Ohio entrepreneurs. The Bits and Atoms Center anticipates the creation of 65 jobs.

MVEDC joins partnership

MidAmerican Global Ventures LLC announced that it has entered a strategic marketing partnership agreement with the Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corp. in Liberty to promote EB-5 financing for job-creating projects in the Mahoning Valley.

MidAmerican Global operates U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services- approved EB-5 regional centers in northwest, central and eastern Ohio.

October is Energy Awareness Month

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and Ohio Development Services Agency are partnering to increase awareness of energy- efficiency during Energy Awareness month.

Throughout October, the agencies will provide tips on reducing energy costs as well as information on energy-assistance programs.

The Ohio Development Services Agency has programs to help Ohio businesses and communities implement energy-efficiency measures. Program information can be found at http://development.ohio.gov/bs/bs_renewenergy.htm.

Average 30-year mortgage at 4.2%

WASHINGTON

Average long-term U.S. mortgage rates declined slightly this week, after marking their largest one-week gain of the year the previous week.

Mortgage company Freddie Mac said Thursday that the nationwide average for a 30-year loan eased to 4.20 percent from 4.23 percent last week. The average for a 15-year mortgage, a popular choice for people who are refinancing, slipped to 3.36 percent from 3.37 percent.

At 4.20 percent, the rate on a 30-year mortgage is down from 4.53 percent at the start of the year.
