Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The staff of the Eastwood Mall Complex is teaming up with Captain McFinn and Friends to take a stand against the destructive effects of bullying.

October is “National Bullying Prevention Month,” and at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the third annual Anti-Bullying Pledge Signing Event will take place in the mall’s center court.

Children, adults, educators and other community leaders are invited to sign a pledge to stand up against bullying and foster more-compassionate behavior among young people.

The event is sponsored by the organization known as Captain McFinn and Friends. This organization has developed a program for educators known as SHARK (Students Help Achieve Respect and Kindness) Patrol.

SHARK Patrol is an educational program for teachers, counselors and parents to educate students in kindergarten through third grade about how to recognize bullying and protect themselves and others against it.

The public also is invited to the Bully Free Rally at noon Oct. 4.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. in the center court. Children will be able to create signs or banners about being bully free. They’ll also enjoy crafts, games, face painting and more.
