POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:
HUBBARD
Sept. 14
Bad checks: A 30-year-old Brookfield man at Devine’s Shop ‘n’ Save, 529 N. Main St., reportedly passed two checks totaling $507 that had been drawn on a closed account.
Sept. 16
Drugs: A traffic stop near Jacobs Road led to the arrest of 33-year-old Amanda R. Larson of Dunbar Street, Austintown, on a misdemeanor drug-possession charge. Larson had a bottle containing assorted pills but no label, police said.
Sept. 17
Assault: An Orchard Avenue boy said another boy punched him for no reason, resulting in minor redness to the affected area.
Assault: A woman alleged that a 73-year-old man twisted and slightly injured both of her wrists as she entered a swimming pool in the 200 block of Hall Avenue.
Sept. 20
Menacing: A woman at a residence in the 300 block of Hager Street told police a Hubbard man, 29, displayed a knife as he walked by the home, causing the accuser to fear for her safety.
LIBERTY
Sept. 17
Burglary: To a residence in the 600 block of Goist Lane through a rear window. A computer hard drive and a safe containing $7,500, jewelry and other items were stolen, for a $10,256 loss.
Theft: A 20-gauge firearm was missing from a bedroom in the 500 block of Ventura Drive.
Drugs: Officers responded to a possibly intoxicated driver in the 3600 block of Belmont Avenue, where they charged 29-year-old Micaela Pegues of Compass West Drive, Austintown, on a charge of possession of dangerous drugs, and issued a traffic citation to 34-year-old Jabari Brightwell, same address. Pegues had 50 Suboxone packets with no prescription, authorities alleged.
Sept. 18
Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail picked up David D. Oliver, 21, of Erie Street, and Brien S. Mennell, 44, of West Earle Avenue. The two Youngstown men were wanted on charges of failing to appear in court.
Recovered property: A wallet belonging to a Locust Valley, N.Y., man was found on property in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue.
Arrest: Brandice R. Shaffer, 33, of Halls Heights Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on a township warrant.
Criminal damaging: An employee with a Goldie Road big-box store discovered someone had placed sugar in his vehicle’s gas tank.
Arrest: Kenneth A. Wanamaker, 33, of Youngstown was taken into custody at the Mahoning County jail. He was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.
Sept. 19
Arrest: Niles police arrested Gary Dickey on Robbins Avenue, Niles, after learning that the 31-year-old man was wanted on a Liberty warrant.
Sept. 20
Arrest: Authorities conducted a vehicle check on Belmont Avenue, where they took into custody 53-year-old Kenneth Chapin of Lansdowne Boulevard, Youngstown, on a Hubbard Township warrant.
Drugs: Suspicious activity in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive drew officers’ attention before they arrested 25-year-old Kaitlin E. Moran on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension. Moran, of Mayflower Avenue, Boardman, had a pipe with suspected drug residue and a small bag of suspected marijuana, a report showed.
Theft: A worker for a Church Hill-Hubbard Road health-care facility reported an envelope containing $108 was taken from her purse.
Sept. 21
Arrest: Youngstown police handed to township authorities 45-year-old Tamara L. Brown of West Evergreen Avenue, Youngstown. Brown was wanted on misdemeanor township warrants charging theft and receiving stolen property.
Criminal damaging/harassment: A Monticello Boulevard woman told officers a Youngstown man, 49, broke a double-pane bedroom window at her residence after having threatened her via phone.
Sept. 22
Drugs: Youngstown police apprehended Elijah J. Taylor, 35, of Mistletoe Avenue, Youngstown, and handed him to township authorities. Taylor, who was wanted on a felony warrant, also was charged with drug abuse when, authorities alleged, they found a small packet of suspected crack cocaine while he was at the Trumbull County jail.
GIRARD
Sept. 20
Arrests: A traffic stop in the 1300 block of North State Street resulted in the arrests of Monica A. Mason, 19, and Jessica L. Mason, 21, both of East Liberty Street, Girard. The two women were wanted on Trumbull County 911 center warrants charging failure to appear in court.
Criminal mischief: A resident in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue saw that someone had kicked in the bottom of a storm door.
Theft: An employee with a U.S. Route 422 drug store reported a wallet and cellphone missing while at work.
Criminal mischief: A Lawrence Avenue man reported someone scratched his pickup truck’s passenger side, hood and driver’s-side door. The damage estimate was $500.
Sept. 21
Arrests: Authorities responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of East Main Street and issued summonses charging Alexis A. Graziano, 23, of St. Clair Avenue, Girard, and Justin M. Sforza of East Main, Girard, with disorderly conduct. Each reported having been assaulted by the other during an argument related to money owed, a report said.
Criminal mischief: An East Kline Street man saw that his car’s driver’s-side tires had been slashed. Damage was estimated at $400.
Assault: Officers responded to a possible fight in the 300 block of Taylor Avenue, where a woman reported that during an altercation, a man had pushed her; the man alleged the woman had punched him.
Harassment: An East Second Street woman said an acquaintance has made numerous such calls to her.
Sept. 22
Criminal mischief: An East Second Street woman noticed that her vehicle’s driver’s-side tires had been cut. Damage came to $300.
