Apple pulls iOS 8 update after users report disabled cell service

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

Apple hastily pulled an update to its brand-new iOS 8 operating system hours after releasing it today, after many users complained of disabled cellphone service and inoperable Touch ID fingerprint recognition.

The update, labeled iOS 8.0.1, was supposed to fix a number of bugs in the new software, launched last week, including one with Apple’s HealthKit feature.

But soon after the update became available this morning, iPhone users took to social media to complain that their cellphone service wasn’t working.

“I enjoy how the iOS 8.0.1 update just turned my iPhone into an iPod Touch. Who needs cellular coverage on a cell phone?” tweeted Brad Vedders.

Some users reported that only new iPhone 6 models, which debuted last week, were being affected.
