Weathersfield Township has a new banner hung over the main conference room at the administration building.

The banner includes a drawing by Jaclyn Craver, a sixth-grader at Seaborn Elementary School. She is the daughter of Rodney and Sherri Craver, the township’s administrative secretary.

Students from any school in the township were invited near the end of last school year to submit artwork for a banner design.

Township Administrator David Rouan said only a handful responded, but trustees are very pleased with the centerpiece of a hand-sketched eagle in pencil placed over the American flag. “Come Home to Weathersfield” is written in the sea of blue in the upper left-hand corner of an American flag.

The drawing is the center of a banner that features photos of firefighters, police, the old middle school and miners from many years ago and includes the motto “Proud Past, Productive Present, Progressive Future.”

Township trustees recently gave a presentation on the “2014 State of the Township,” listing accomplishments since 2013 and plans for a new year.

Among items discussed:

Finalizing the Joint Economic Development District with Niles.

A new impound lot run by the township.

Heaton-Chute Sanitary Sewer District project scheduled for 2016.

Budget cuts that reduced operating expenditures by $248,000.

Grant projects for 2013 or 2014, for a total of $1.26 million. The grants include money for various projects, such as the purchase of specialized safety-forces equipment and vehicles, road repaving or the Oakview Manor Phase 2 project.

Trustees reported work is expected to begin before the end of this month on the Oakview Street project to correct roadway drainage and street flooding.

The $123,000 project will include $93,000 in an Ohio Public Works grant, including a local share of $29,000.

A Trumbull County paving project of three miles of Austintown-Warren Road, from Carson-Salt Springs Road to the Warren city limit is complete, Rouan said. The paving was expected to cost $700,000.

Trustees authorized fire Chief Randall Pugh to purchase additional equipment for the new township firetruck that was ordered in the spring, and is expected to arrive in November. The total cost is $51,187. The equipment was purchased through Finley Fire Department of McConnelsville. Some equipment also was purchased through the Ohio Department of Administrative Services General Services Division.
