Suspect in Ohio killing gunned down by police

MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Police officers in northeast Ohio have shot and killed a suspect in the slaying of a man in a nearby city.

Police in Mansfield say officers killed 39-year-old Shane Lambert of Norwalk about 3 a.m. Monday inside a vacant home. Lambert was a suspect in the disappearance of 57-year-old James Berens, whose neighbor called police Saturday.

Police found Berens’ body Monday about 4:15 a.m., about a half-mile from his home in Norwalk, 35 miles north of Mansfield, his two dogs standing guard. Authorities believe he was killed Friday afternoon inside his garage.

Lambert’s wife told Norwalk police on Saturday that she saw her husband on Friday afternoon covered in blood and driving one of Berens’ cars, The (Norwalk) Reflector reported.
