YOUNGSTOWN

Police caught a Hubbard man they say was breaking into a West Side home early Saturday morning, but another man who was with him managed to get away.

Reports said officers were called to a home in the 700 block of South Belle Vista Avenue about 4:20 a.m. for a report of a burglary in progress and when they arrived they found a basement light on inside the home.

An officer went to check the side door and saw two men in hooded sweatshirts come outside, reports said. The officer told the men to stop and stay where they were, but they both ran away, reports said.

One officer managed to catch 20-year-old Charles Boerio of Beechwood Drive, Hubbard, in the parking lot of St. Mary Church and tackled him, reports said.

Reports said Boerio told officers the burglary was not his idea and he was just “tagging along” and that he ran from police because he has warrants.

Boerio was taken into custody on a burglary charge and taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Reports also said there were pieces of copper piping in the basement of the home that were cut away from the ceiling.
